AOD Transmission

I have R N OD D 1 2 on my Mustang. Might sound dumb but I dont know what the other D, 1, and 2 do. Will my car be faster off the line from 1, or 2? Is it faster if I downshift from a roll down to one of those gears? Or do they serve no purpose whatsoever, and I should always stay in OD?

Is it a 4 banger? The 5.0 AOD shift pattern is this: 1 D OD N R P. My guess is that for mileage and around town driving, stay in over drive. For racing, you shift through those gears 1 and 2, then into D for third gear manually. Also, if its a 4 banger, it is not an AOD, it's a A4LD.

you cant hit third manually unless you do the 1 D 1 shuffle and i really dont remember how to do it but someone else will chime in and tell you and yes its alot better when running the car cause you can hold the gears

Its not a 4 banger... my car is like 3000 miles aways from me though and now your making me question my shift pattern.

You sure the auto 92s dont go 1 2 D OD N R P?

Your car will leave in low gear,1st ,and you can hold it in it if you pull shifter in 1,then take motor to desired rpm,up shift to 2,immediately pull back down to low,1st gear and when you want to go to 3rd,drive,just up shift one more time.

Yeah, its 2nd that is dumb to manually shift.

You double tap it into 1st to go into 2nd
and then shift into D for 3rd.

You can get aftermarket shifters that get rid of that.
