So my car overheated..

This is the second time this has happened. The previous owner bypassed the Heater core but used a crappy fitting to connect the 2 hoses. It popped open and I leaked out all my coolant and I had to drive the car home like that with the thermostat at 270.. It happened again today and I drove 30 minutes with it like that. I finally replaced the hoses with clamps and such so it won't happen again. But my question is, when I had to drive the car home, did I hurt the engine at all? The thermo was pegged at 260-270 the whole way...

wow... that's one of the dumbest things you can do.... sorry, not trying to be an ass, but seriously... fix the heater hose issue and drive it... if it drives ok you MAY have gotten lucky.. but most of the time you'll know right away when it's messed up...

Well i live in the middle of nowhere and work 40 miles away, I really didn't have much of a choice but to drive it home. I fixed the hose and replaced all the coolant and it seems to run fine. Just wondering if there was anything I would have to expect to fix.

Hey, damn bro, like "thatdavidkid" said, that was not a very wise decision. I understand you might of not had a choice. But you could have parked it somewhere decent, called a buddy, picked up some parts and went and fixed it. Pegged 260-270. Thats insane and yea you could have done some serious damage. You might of ended up lucky, but normally things would def blow due to the extreme heat. Consider your self lucky. Next time give your mustang the common courtesy and pull over and shut her down.

Tons of things that could have happened. Time will tell you if anything was damaged. If you know that you can get stranded in the middle of no where, better come up with some emergency supplies like extra oil, trans fluid, fix a flat, water / coolant, tools, electrical tape and a good cell phone.

Everyone was at work though and my dad already saved me because I ran out of gas that day. I pulled over and let it chill for a half hour but I had to get to autoozne which was by my house. Before I did that I got home and let it cool off and put new water in it. Then I went to autozone and replaced everything so I don't think it will happen again. I blame the previos owner for mexican rigging it lol... But idk I guess time will tell if anything is wrong. It seems fine though

it probably doesn't, it was probably hotter than that.
270* is enough to warp a cast iron head.

Why would I make a new thread? The reason it overheated is because the heater bypass had a crappy fitting and came undone and leaked all my coolant out. I fixed it and drives just fine. Hottest it's gotten so far is maybe 150.

if its running rough or anything, that could tell you.

but if not dont worry about it, you would do a cylinder leakage test, and a compression test, possibly a coolant pressure test, those tests would let you know

It runs better than when I first got it though lol. It would run rough and lean in the upper rpms under WOT. And I remember the crappy fitting leaking, and I recall my engine running hotter then so I think that's what was making it run crappy.

What would be the symptoms of something wrong with my engine after all this happened?
