roll cage

How much work is it (and money) to get a roll cage in a 88 5.0? My car will be high 11's low 12's, and its got subframe connectors and a strut tower brace, lake wood 50/50's, nitto 555rs, so traction/stability is pretty good but i think i want a roll cage in their. I want to keep the back seats, and i dont mind having to help people get in (lifting them over the bar or whatever it takes). What will it do for me in terms of stability? how much do they weigh? thanks a lot..

You won't need a roll bar until you go 11.49 or faster. A roll bar or cage will stiffen the car up alot. You are looking at adding about 100 pounds to the car with a mild steel 8 point roll bar. Chromoly will be about 25% lighter. How easy or hard it is to install depends on how good at metal fabrication you are and how good you can weld pipe. Welding pipe is alot different than welding two pieces of flat steel together.

wolfe sells a chromoly cage for about 600 bucks.
check them out.
and yes, it is a lot of work and you will pay more for labor than for the roll cage itself if you can't weld it yourself.
also, do you want to be nhra certified?

i bought an S & W roll bar and it fit really nice, the bar came notched and it's bent to clear the back seat. my boy and i bought ours together so we got a small discount plus we used his company truck ( and gas ) to pick them up so we didn't pay shipping . My other buddy came over to my house and we ( he ) welded the bar in my car in less then a day. so to surmise ... i really like the S & W bar. btw a buddy of mine got a competition engineering bar and it required a lot of massaging to get it to fit right
