I had a mechanic friend take a look at my car last night. He told me it is a mis alignment issue witht he water pump pulley. The water pump pulley sits back to far. The front of the belt rides the front of the pulley. So in other words the center of the belt is not in the center of the pulley.

I replaced the water pump 6 months ago. I bought the water pump at autozone. I haven't had any belt issue's till now which I don't understand. You can clearly see that the water pump pulley is not inline with the crank pulley and the others.

So I bought this to fix the problem. The pulley needs to come forward about a 1/16

What do you guys think?

Did you still check the water pump shaft though? I would say something is going wrong if it randomly "walked out" a 1/16 in six months. Maybe the bearings are bad and it has enough play to sit at a slight angle and as the belt rotates on the angled pulley, it is being pushed forward onto the lip. A shim may be a temp fix that masks the real problem. If the problem started when you put the new pump on, it could have always been a 1/16 off from a crappy rebuild or a bad casting. Just my .02

I don't know why I would have problem 6 months later with alignment issues.

I'm going to take the shoud fan and pulley off this weekend. I will grab ahold of the shaft and see how much play their is forwards and backwards.

Right now the pulley needs to come forward towards the radiator about a 1/16

I do notice the water pump pulley looks crooked. I put a wrench on the bolts and they were tight. But the actual water pump pulley looks a bit crooked. could this mean the water pump shaft is bad.

I replaced that water pump in the winter time. I think it was late december.
well thats how things happen usually they are fine untill they go bad....I dont think you have a bur and a wobble like blown said think from the way it sounds you have a pully thats running the belt off to the front or back and wearing the belt...or possibly a bur but from what you say about them wobbling i would bet on that could be your harmonic balancer going out and maybe you have some loose bolts from when you installed your water pump cause you said its not wobbling like the main but it looks crooked right? that could cause the rubbing on the belt

heck I have no idea anymore. All I can say is from looking at it real close last night with a friend we both agreed that it has to come forward a 1/16 so that the center of the belt is centered on the pulley. So I'm going to shim it and go from there.

The pulley really didn't look that crooked anymore. One day it does the next day it seemed fine. It's just wierd like that.

I'm going to take it the fan shroud off also the fan and the pulley and see what is going on under there.

Still don't have a clue why it's happening now and not when I first replaced my water pump.
