Here's the main highlights. Send me an email at matt@diyautotune.com if you'd like me to set you up with a complete quote for a custom system. Megasquirt parts are sold a la carte to hold costs down - you may already have a suitable serial cable, for example, as it uses an off the shelf computer part.

Custom built Megasquirt 1 or 2. If you're not soldering it together from a kit, I'd use a V3.57, and it will need four coil drivers installed. The Megasquirt 1 has a boost control option which we can also add. There's about an $80 difference between the two. This will hook up to a set of the stock '96-'98 coil packs and the factory crank sensor. This has a built in MAP sensor that reads up to 21 psi of boost - we have a 4 bar upgrade as an option.

A JimStim - this is a handy little board that I'd recommend for bench testing the unit if you need to troubleshoot your installation. It can duplicate the sensor inputs from a 4.6 motor, including the signal from the crank wheel.

A wiring harness. We have a universal one for $65.

An open element IAT sensor can be helpful though you can use the stock Ford parts.

Then there's a couple little other items - a cable to hook it up to the laptop, maybe a power supply for the JimStim.

For a ready made system, at this point you'd usually be looking at around $625-725 for all the above items. Now for the other things we have that would be helpful (sorry, I'm in sales pitch mode and not stopping. )

We've got several different sizes of injectors that'll fit this motor. A set of eight 42 lb/hr injectors would run $392 and should be good for at least 440 hp. You will also want to tune this with a wideband O2 sensor - we have the sensors and gauges as well; if you're getting one from us our most popular sensor + gauge package sells for $289, but we have cheaper and more expensive options.

as i do my research and pan this out in my head,..i'm playing with motor possibilities.. i might keep the pushrod 5.0,.. and build it somewhat to stand some turbo abuse. With that being said,.. is all the above compatible with this motor? i would assume so

The ignition setup is a bit different between a 4.6 and 5.0. If you keep the 5.0, there are a couple different options:

1. Order it with TFI ignition mods to work with the stock distributor. This won't work on a 4.6 though without some other changes, so it's probably not the option I would recommend.

2. Order the one I described and use its #1 spark output to fire the coil directly, bypassing the TFI module. It can still read the PIP signal from the module, just doesn't put out the right signal to the TFI module.

3. Order the setup I described, stick a 36-1 crank wheel on your 5.0 (either an Explorer one or one of our wheel kits), and get the benefits of crank triggered distributorless ignition on your 5.0.
