5.0 to 460 swap

i'm in the process of a 460 swap. my engine builder does a few speed boats and guarantees 550hp out of a D3VE 466. i'm building it to take a 200-300 shot of nitrous. i already have my motor and i'm getting ready to pull the heads to send them to the machineist. i'll post flow numbers as soon as possible. my origional plan was to put the motor in my old 1985 Capri but i'm having second thaughts. that car is way too nice to gut. now i'm thinking about a 4 cyl coupe. i want to gut the car to weigh less than 3,000 with motor and tranny.

how many hp will it take to make a 2,900-3,000lb car run mid 9s? i have my sights set on a particular car, my buddy's 1995 turbo supra. it's a little over 1,000hp but it's gotta be a 4,000lb car.

You gonna tow a boat with it? You could put a hitch on it and haul a trailer, and still spank some ass.

...and still be able to haul a Boston Whaler!

Seriously...I'd use a SN95 or newer car, because I believe they're lighter. Strip all the sealer out of it and that'll take alot of weight out of the car. 600-700 sounds like a good number.

If you can get traction, you can probably run 9's on the spray. Big block fox body's are very front end heavy and that makes it hard to get traction.

traction won't be a problem and weight shouldn't either in a gutted fox coupe with tubular k member a arms ect.

I have a 89 coupe for sale, originally a 4cyl auto car. No engine or tranny in it now, but it still has full interior. The car needs a rear bumper and taillights. The car is black with grey interior.$600 that is what I have in it. pm me if you are interested. If you get traction you will be in the 9's

that's cool, this thread will probably go on throughout the build. that's quite a drive for me. gas there and back with a trailer would kill the deal

You are going to be around 3100 pounds at the least unless you weigh it on a scale that is a bit off. My 90 coupe was gutted to the fullest extent. The only further weight reduction I could have done was an aluminum block, carbon fiber doors and carbon fiber trunk lid. That car with no alternator and me in it weighed 2740. Your engine weighs 310+ pounds more than a 351W with aluminum heads. Depending on what transmission you use there will be more added weight. I also had gun drilled axles and spool, Aerospace brakes in the front and rear and a bunch of other lightweight parts that saved me at least 150 pounds. Figure your car to be 3300 or so with you in it. It will take you about 750hp to run 9.50s at that weight. At 3000 pounds it would take you about 675hp.

Says who? Go tell that to the guys running single digits and dragging the bumper with big blocks in fox bodies. A good suspension and good tires produce traction. It would take alot of weight in the front and alot of weight eliminated in the rear and a real shitty track before weight distribution would become and issue, especially in a relatively low horsepower application.

i can live with those numbers. 750hp should be within range with nitrous. i'll beat that supra or break something trying

traction won't be a problem. i'm not one of those kids that tries to make a ton of hp and pays no attention to suspension
