If your car has 17in. wheels then the last owner must have bought them because 17's did not come factory in '94
Having said that, you still might want to consider the 4:10's now to compensate for the larger diameter tire you have. Having a "taller" tire is like going "lower" in gears. It's you car though so do what you want. I'm just trying to show you the entire picture.

Some 94 GTs came with a split 3 spoke 17" wheel......I had one.
FYI, 225/55/17 tire is 26.9" tall by 8.9" wide. A 275/40/17 tire is 25.7" tall by 10.8" wide.

Maybe he would be better off with 3:73's for what he wants to do.
