14" 150lb spring would work a bit better.

He is doing something wrong or he doesn't have a 14" 150lb spring. I was running 14" 130lb springs in my black car and it weight 3016 with me in it. 14" 130lb spring is the most common spring out there and many people are using it with weights ranging from 3000 to 3300 pounds. Your friend has issues somewhere else.

Just get a coil over kit for your struts. UPR, Granatelli and other companies make them. The kits usually come with some stiff springs so you will probably have to buy another set of springs which is about $50 if I remember correctly.
