long tubes will get you about 10-15 hp more but are more difficult to install

its not that big of a difference unless you have some serious horsepower under the hood. for stock to slightly modded mustangs short tubes will be cheaper and easier to install. but if you have big plans for the cars future dont waste your money and buy headers twice.....soo figure out what your doing with the car. I say shortys for the street.

if u dont have any other mods done to the car yet put the money elseware the stock shorties are ok for now. get an o/r h pipe,an electric fan, some gears,an intake, then headers.

Shorty unequal lengh is what I would go with if the car is stockish why?
Uses your current h or x mid pipe
Less costly to purchase
Easiest to install
Gains you hp and torque

Shorty equal lengh I had once and didn't like

Little more money to purchase
No real difference in hp gains over the unequal lenghts
Allot harder to make plug changes

Longtubes do have gains over both shorty header styles but
Heats up your starter nicely
Hang low and causes ground clearance issues with some brands
Requires the purchase of a shorter h or x mid pipe
Isn't emissions legal if you care about that stuff

But longtubes doe sounds nicer and add some more torque.. but really aren't needed until you mod the motor some in my opinion

longtubes are an easy install. i dont know why every one has such difficulty. the 93 5.0 had mini starters. youcan get heat wrep for starters for 20 bucks.

so how much of a difference would 1 5/8 unequal shorties make? sound wise and performance wise, over stock

On a mild engine, aftermarket shorties are a waste of money. The horsepower gain is minimal at best. Long tube headers will make more power across the board than a shorty. Pro Stock engines make more horsepower per cubic inch than any other naturally aspirated engine on the planet and you will never find a set of shorty headers on one of those engines. As far as fitment issues and starter heat soak go, you get what you pay for. If you are a cheap ass then you can expect problems. Quality headers fit good and make horsepower, plain and simple. I've never had a heat soak issue on a small block Ford. That is typically a GM problem because the solenoid is on the starter and heats up when header tubes are too close.

I always recommend longtubes. Most of the time they will make the same power, if not more, even with a stock motor, and then your good to go when you upgrade. Do things once, and plan for the future, so you dont have to do it over again.
