Manual Rack

I want to lose some weight and free up some power. Any one do this swap? How is it for low speed driving?

Yes, I've done in many times. No problems driving at any speed. The only time the steering wheel will be hard to turn is when you are stopped.

The 79 rack will work. You might need different outer tie rod ends....I don't remember for sure. The steering shaft might be different as well. Flaming River sells a kit that has everything you need. It costs a bit more but it is top notch quality and everything is polished so it looks good too.

I'm sure if you type that info into summit or your mail order of choice they'll have it, too. MU is just close to me so I didn't have to pay shipping. If they don't have it in stock, expect to wait a few weeks too. I can't speak for the difficulty as I did it when I had my engine out.

I have a flaming river manual rack that I got off ebay for $165 shipped to me door a while back and threre still on ebay.. I reused everything else and haven't had any problems since. If you have money though you should prob go with one of there complete kits but I didn't and don't really see the need to

Only time it's tough turning the wheels is when your completely stopped.. other wise it was one of the best and easiest weight reduction mods i've done to the car
