I had my stock 91 up to about 130+ once on a two lane road that passed through a sugar cane field. I'll never do that again. The car was all over the place and stopping at the end was very interesting.

what is exactly
again?140mph isn't really that hard of a goal to achieve. not that I am saying it's bright to go that fast; but it can indeed get up there.

when i was young and very stupid I pegged the 180 speedo on my GSXR and still had RPM's left but got clocked at 177 and had to back out....not smart on the streets buddy watched my buddy cut a car in half that floated a stop but he was going about 140-150...not to mention you are in a 20 year old car that doesnt respond well to high speeds and could loose it very easy...

High Speed!!
I had my 2006 Corvette up to 150 on hwy 101 real early in the morning awhile back. The vett had no issues at that speed, would I do it again? Hell no, not on the street. I would not attempt to take my fox that fast, 140 is not the car to do it in, and in my opinion I think you would need tons of room to get a 225 hp fox to 140!! My vett had over 400 hp and took a little time to get to the speed I was at. Mark

agreed...this myth is Busted ...my 2002 vette I got to 150-160 and it took some room still had RPM's left but was just taking soooo long to pull.....but those cars are not old school technology and handle a lot different than a fox at high speeds....plus your car is bone stock no? and doesnt the speedo in the 89 cut off at 80? I may be wrong on that one

im calling Bs becasue i wouldnt think the rpm would be so high at 140....
ive gone that fast with stock gears and my rpm was nowhere near 5-6k like the OP claims also from looking at an rpm chart rite now my car would top out at 197 at the end of 5th if i had enough power to get it there so i highly doubt the op was almost redlining in 5th doing 140 cars typcially hit a top speed when they are limited by areodynmacis (sp?) or not enough power....not becuase they run out of rpm

ok so do you know the difference between his transmission, red line, and gear ratio and yours?
or what gear he was in for that fact? you don't even know if his car is a stick or an auto.

My 91 5.0 hit 137. Probably the fastest I will ever go in my life. It had more room...but at that speed you are traveling a mile every 26 seconds approx. I was stock and for every one mile an hour over 130 it took an eternity to reach so I was not about to risk a ticket a few miles up the road to get to 140-145. But like was already said the car stock is not stable at those speeds and any bump or road irregularities and you can pretty much say goodbye to your short time on this Earth!
