problems at the track

i have a 1993 gt with the following mods

bbk longtubes
o/r x
Mac catback
bbk cold air
msd dizzy
12 deg. timing
qa1 k-member
toikico/granatelli coilovers
granatelly tubular control arms
granatelli rear upper and lower controll arms
tokico springs
strange adjustable shocks
eaton posi with 31 spline axles
3.73 gears.

my best was 15.088 with a 2.44 60' and a .742 reaction time. I was burning through 1st and most of second and my rear shocks were set at super stiff, not for drag. wind was against us. what should my time be and how can i launch harder and still hook. I am hoping for a high 13's. Thanks for any help

check out "mustang performance handbook 2" by william r. mathis. It has alot of great info on setting your car up, and if you have the ability or know someone who does, there are many pieces that can be fabricated. One trick to help increase antisquat and send more of that power to the ground is to change the angle of your pinion. You also need to make sure your tires are up to the task.

2.44 60? I had a Pinto that would do that. Seriously, get some better tires for drag racing(run less that 35#) and go practice. Reaction time has nothing to do with the rest of the facts. You can sit there for 2 seconds, the rest of the times don't start until you move. Spinning tires = going no where fast!

Those tires are never going to hook.

However, with some practice you should be able to click off some 13.90s-14.0s even with those tires. Your 60 foot is horrible. Get it down to 2.0 or better. If the tires are spinning off the line so bad then obviously you need to take off a little easier. Work on your launch technique and your ET will improve drastically. The majority of your ET is gained in the first 330 feet. Changes in the 60 foot will be the biggest improvements in ET.

^+1 that is the only question. We will be able to give a good estimate of what the car should run.

Unless you inform us of the RWHP or FWHP and vehicle weight or the MPH it's a shot in the dark at best. Gears, exhaust, and hook can sink a three pedal 5.0L deep into the 13's and high 12's are not out of the question.

here is my 14.9 run

60' 2.284
330 6.261
1/8 9.611
mph 73.13
1000 12.502
1/4 14.931
mph 92.86
that was my first time to the track
I have an AOD

also(info that I could have used before I ran) do not drive in the water box with street tires because water will get traped in the grooves and you will slip eaiser. If you do a burn out only do a dry small one to clean the tires off. and let some air out of the tires.

lol thats what sucks I bought it with 3.73 gears a valve body shift kit and headers/h pipe. I guess thats how much work a vert has to do to make up the weight diff lol. I have added control arms and lowerd it so I might take it back to the track a little wiser this time.

Why can't a daily driver run slicks at the track? We used to throw our slicks in the hatch and then change the tires when we got to the track. Now I just drive to the track on them because I'm too lazy to swap wheels. Besides that I like listening to people tell me slicks aren't streetable and how my cars are all race cars. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
