Second thinking tranny choice

Right now im getting my car together for a future engine swap. So far just doing the whole rear end and suspension stuff making it so it can handle a 408w. So far im looking at something like this for the motor:

408w
afr 225
super victor intake
barry grant carb
etc etc u guys know the general build

but.... im stating to second guess my choice for transmission. I originally wanted to go with a c4 but now im not sure if i want a c4, built aod or t56. The care is going to see some street (def not a daily driver) but I want to be able to drive it around if I want to. What would you guys recommend?

manual is a ton of fun on the street , however, if the car is going to see much track duty then a built auto is the way to go. I've got a C4 with a manual valve body, same fun as a stick but much easier to drive at the track. If i had the money i'd try some sort of overdrive trans but i'm content with the c4 . btw i drive an hour and a piece to the local track. i have to chuckle tho when i get passed by mini vans , metros, and station wagons on I 95 while i'm struggleing to do 70 mph altho it does give me time to enjoy the scenery

I'd go with a g-force t5 or a t56.

ide choose depending on your horse power. auto is better when u have big hp.

but manual is awesome...

regarding the t56 does any one have a link where u can buy all the custom materials you would need to use it?

I think it all comes down to what you want. Driving with a manual transmission is fun but so is driving with a well built automatic. I think either transmission will hold the power you are going to make. The C4 will be faster unless you get a proshifted trans and can pound gears like a mad man. Either way it will be fast.

+1 that shit on the street with a 408 would be awesome. Everybody loves to say once you make that kinda of power it's auto or nothing but that's not true. Manuals can still be done just fine. My buddy has an 03 cobra that made 706 to wheels and he's still on a built stock style tranny. The car's fully set up for drag, solid rear, eaton locker etc and he leaves with fast auto's all day at the track. And my favorite part of that car is that he rocks it everywhere, Takes girls out in it ac blasting etc. And with a quick change frome et.streets to slicks he's blasting people at the track. With my hci fox on a 200 shot, i'll be full in it he'll let me catch nail it pull away instantly by like a car or two and wait for me again lol.

Being able to drive is key. I've only seen one direct comparo on an auto vs. manual in the same car with the same launch rpm and same motor. It was a g-force T-5 vs. a C4 with 10 in converter both launched at 4500 rpms.

The car ran low 11s with a C4 and high 10s with the G-force, it was much more consistent with the C4. Perhaps with a transbrake, the C4 would be just as good.
