I have a 92 hatch thats a i guess u could call it strawberry red color (stock color). I wanna keep it about the same color just freshen it up. What kind of paint and where should I get it from?

well I cant really say I have a low budget but a friend of mine bought this extremely ugly convertible not to long ago it was purple when he got it and a guy we know painted it for him to a solid white color that looks really good. Considering how much he payed the guy that car came out great. Only thing I would have to do is buy the paint and I can get mine done. Im not looking for a show car job just something to hold up for awhile and look decent at the track.

Major difference between spraying soild colors and metallics, pearls, tri coats , etc. Ask if he has sprayed many of these types, if not be careful, could end up being very costly, good paint's not cheap and neither is good primer and sealer. Using premium brand paint materials could approach a grand (remember, red IS the most expensive). I just bought a quart of PPG Cherry Red Met base ('95 Thunderbird) and it was $125. It will take around 3 quarts to do a hatch, and you need the base reducer as well. Even Restorer's Choice clear is over $200 a gallon with cat and reducer. Add in the 2 part primer and sealer and you see where the cost is going. Nothing worse than having to sand off all of you new, expensive paint. There are some economy paints out there, basic acrylic enamals with hardeners that are less expensive and will still look decent. Single stage metallics are harder to spray but done right they look good. Base / clear jobs look great, can be cut and buffed to clean up imperfections but cost more.
