Getting ready to tear apart my car, any advice?

I am getting ready to put the following upgrades on my Mustang.

1. GT40P heads, just got them resurfaced, magnafluxed and had a valve job done.
2. 97 Explorer Intake Manifold and 65mm Throttle body
3. Ford E303 Cam
4. Cobra 70MM 19lb tuned Mass air
5. FR 3.73 gears, I am having shop do this.

I have purchased the entire FelPro gasket kit, new head bolts, timing chain gasket, thermostat, K&N filter, oil filter, oil, brake cleaner, anti-freeze and spark plugs. Is there anything else I should have on hand before we get into this job?

Thanks,
Matt

I have a tip i used...Dont completely disconnect the fuel rails...Just move them from one side to another as you work on the opposite side...

Seriously though, good luck! I did an almost identical swap two summers ago....I think you'll be satisfied with it (that is until you get more money and want to go faster!)

Stock headers won't work.

I thought I could get some 90 degree spark plug wires and would be ok.

i just put p heads on my car and used the stock manifolds. i had to heat up the number 6 and 8 tubes and beat them in a bit to clear the plugs and then put some 90degree boots on those two...but all the other plugs fit fine

Advice - take pictures and write things down if you're not sure you'll remember them.

FRPP Shorty headers work with the P heads.

These are my Headers!!

I checked and it turns out I have aftermarket headers on my Mustang. Will these work with GT40P heads if I use 90 degree spark plug wires.

86-93 HEADERS, EQUAL LENGTH, 5.0, 1 1/2" MUSTANG

Thanks,
Matt

I am in the middle of almost the exact same swap - I have a bunch of pics up on my site - Bob’s Slice of the Internet - not an in-depth, step-by-step thing, but i am doing almost the exact same thing. GT40 heads, explorer intake, Trickflow stage 1 cam, 24# injectors, BBK fuel pressure regulator, Walbro 255 lph pump, BBK shorty headers, the works.

Here's a pic of the current state of affairs:

Lemme know if you have any questions, I might be able to help.

i disagree with the whole dont disconnect the fuel rail thing they are very easy to get off there is a tool thats cost like 4 dollars at checker that is one of the most handy tools to have they look like this http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/im...361-detail.jpg

there are different types but these are the cheapest and easy to use and they are needed on almost every car somewhere they are used on AC,tranny lines, collant lines, fuel lines. just go get them..

Gaskets?

Will the gaskets that come in the Felpro kit work with the 96 Explorer intake I have purchased?

Will they work with the GT40P heads?

Thanks,
Matt

I agree, i have one and i want to take it out and go bigger this winter. Its is obviously up to you but that is just my opinion. If you are looking for better HP gains, lose the E-cam, Z-cam perhaps? But i would go Trick Flow Stage 1 or Stage 2 cam.

Just remember you'll be stuck with whatever ya get. But as along as your happy, thats really all that matters.
