So I made a BIG MISTAKE,new motor???
okay so i was doing some maintence this morning, noticed that the filter was full of thick black gunk. So i used the K&N recharge thing on it....well not realizing it was gonna take so long to dry out, it had dried for about an hour and a half, and i had to be at work. So it felt dry so i threw it in the car and headed to work. Started up fine seemed to run okay until i started up the road, went into 2nd gear and it sorta bogged down. Motor didn't die or anything but hesitated so i gave it a lil more gas and it slowly chugged through the rpms. So i pulled over cut the car off started it again, and it started fine, idle was fine. So i held the rpms at 2500 and it never sputtered or anything, so i reved it a few times to about 3500-4000 and about the 4th time i heard a lil pop almost like a small backfire, in the exhaust. Pulled back out and it ran fine...i stomped it again in first and it pulled fine, hit 2nd and it ran fine. Came to a stop light pulled off normal and just rolled into the throttle, this time it went slowly through the rpms again. so i shifted into 2nd gave it some gas expecting the same thing and the car jumped foward and took off...so obiviously i sucked a lil water off the filter up, but nothing major it wasn't dripping...do you think the motor will be fine??? will the water eventually burn up?

if more water went in you could have experienced hydro-lock and would need a new engine
but your fine since its running now....

should be fine , just let it dry out good and then take it back off and get some QD electronic cleaner from advance or autozone and spray off the filaments in the mass air meter , it might have gotten some oil on it , and if it did it will make it run lean

it's not like u explained how something worked, u gave me a number. I can memorize things too. And face it, he Demellow'd himself. His car was sputtering and he admits to giving it more gas trying to see what was wrong. Haven't we established when car feels like it's broken don't go faster to make problem go away? so again, i stand by my original post with pride

prob got some junk on the maf. Water is heavier than air... maf will send lots of voltage, rich running hence the bogging.

+1 the air filter can't hold enough water to hydrolock the motor. Probably just got some water/oil on the MAF.

Try taking some saline solution ( contacts stuff ) and clean off your MAF. Sometimes the oils from the filter got on the sensor and screw with stuff...
( or +1 to the people who were typing the same time as me... But saline solution works like a charm for cleaner the suckers up )

That will do it. I kept thinking it was a carb'd engine. Check that...you have to suck in alot of water to do permanent damage. Some shops that "steam clean" engines use more water safely than what you may have sucked in. Your filter would have to be soaked and damn near in standing water for it to have killed the motor. |

clean you MAF before it gets ruined K&N pil will foul one fast, and if you were pulling water off the filter you were pulling wet oil off as well

Clean the filter again. Wash out the filter and let it dry in the sun for atleast an hour and a half. Then oil it and let it sit for atleast 2 hours.
Go get some MAF cleaner from the auto parts and clean the maf. If it is gunked enough you should get a qtip and apply LIGHTLY to the element to make sure. |
