cooling help

just looking for some tips on cooling. I run turboed and non intercooled. YES I KNOW INTERCOOLED WOULD HELP, but i dont want to run intercooled. I have this little crap flex electric fan. I think it pulls like 1500cfm. nothing basically. I have probe fans that i was considering putting on the front of the radiator but worried about slowing natural flow when driving. But if im forcing air I wonder if it will be better than just the normal air flow? I also run a water/meth injection too. Just looking for some more thoughts. Ill attach a picture of my fan now, maybe I should just get rid of it. But I dont have room for dual fans on the inside of the bay so I have to replace it with a single.

a fan pushings not efficient as a fan pulling, upgrade to a taurus fan on high, just upgrade ur alternator and throw in a 160 thermostat

I would advice against the 160 thermostat. That would keep the car running in open loop. If your cooling system can't maintain a reasonable temperature with a 185/195/192 thermostat, it will not maintain it with a lower one or even with no thermostat at all. The heat put into the water by the engine has to equal the heat taken out by the radiator to maintain temperature. The radiator should be able to remove more heat then the engine can put in it without a problem and the thermostat is only there to keep it at a minimum temperature.

My thoughts on the Taurus fan.
The fan itself is cheap and works great but it is not the perfect solution for every case. The problem is if you don't already have a 130A+ alternator, you will need one AND you will have to buy and or fabricate the circuitry to get it wired up safely. You could by a Flex-a-lite 175 or clone and it comes with everything you need and does not require a 130A alternator.

You can also cool your oil too... thats always good for 20^ of cooling. And they sell this stuff at walmart for real cheap that from what i understand lowers the viscosity of your coolent to make the heat transfer more effecient. they "gaurantee" it will lower your temps but i have never tried it.

flexalites are fn expensive and ive had my taurus fan on low all summer and my car never gets above 200, and i live in arizona, and im on the stock alt and i have ud pulleys

I run a flex a lite fan now. but because of where my intake sits I cant put a dual fan set up. I do know that a pulling fan is more efficient than a pushing one. Now since there is relatively little air flow through the grill of the car what would the thought be about wiring a fan to push from the front of the radiator? Granted at higher speeds it may not be helping much but since the little driving I do is city, maybe that idea would work. I havent seen anyone try it so I may just try for the hell of it and see what happens. Oh and my car hasn't seen 30 minutes of driving in about 4 months. I barely take this thing around the block on weekends. Hell at 5mpgs I couldn't afford a 30 mile drive. thats almost a half a tank of gas.

I thought about thermal wrap but Im a little iffy about that for two reasons, one being I dont want to cover up all my custom piping. The other that by wrapping the pipe it will lower under hood temps but also keeps more heat going to the turbo which then passes through back into the intake right back into the motor. that could cause my turbo heat damage and also defeats the cooling idea.

Now I haven't messed with the altenator yet. I have no idea if its stock or 130 amp. I do know that it doesn't work very well but I was blaming the charging problem on a poor battery relocation wiring job by the previous owner. I was going to look at that this weekend? I also run an msd ignition so I pull quite a bit of power so Im sure a larger altenator is due.

Has anyone messed with installing an oil cooler like a larger rendition of what they put on motorcycles?

you heat wrap turbo piping to keep the exhaust hot as possible, hot air travels faster

Taurus fan is hard to be money/performance - wise but aside from that style fan i've also had great success with the ramchargers aka allstar (bought out by allstar) dual efan setups in a previous fox and buick grand national. There used allot in the buick community and actually are oem fans used in some dodge stratus and intrepids I forget what years though. With that fan i'd suggest picking up the nice plug and play controller/toggle setup from casper's electronics. It's expensive but i've used it before and it makes the install five minutes long. Either way you go get rid of that pos you have now before you end up doing a head gasket change

I agree... you want all the heat to stay in the pipes. It'll help prevent lag as well
