T5 to C4 swap info i learned.

well i am about done with my swap just have to wire up my trans brake and bolt up my exhaust.

everything went fairly smooth a few things i ran into was..

when you buy a shifter make sure it is for the valve body you have (forward or reverse)

make sure you get the correct bellhousing for the flexplate you have (157t or 164t) the bigger bell housing is a little easier to find a seperator plate for cause the AOD uses the same plate.

there 2 differnt styles of c4 transmissions case fill or pan fill.

if u plan to use a trans brake make sure you have the correct converter built with anti ballooning plates.

the stock t-5 crossmember and mount will work but will not line up with the c4 but it is an easy fix. on the crosmember there spot welds on the tubes where the bushings are you can cut the welds very easy with a cut off wheel and tap (pound) the crossmember forward to line up where u need to then re spot weld it.

when bolting the transmission to the block before you tighten the bell housing all the way put at least one bolt in the converter and flexplate or you wont be able to line the holes up. (trust me i found that out lol)

when you adjust the cable it is easier to find neutral on the transmission then put the shifter in the neutral position and adjust it accordingly.

i know this isnt very detaild but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

this is my first expierence with an automatic and these are the things that i didnt think of when i first started the swap.

Interesting... I'm working on procuring my fox roller, then i'll worry about the 427, and bolting up the C4.

The 157 / 164 tooth flex plate is a good point. 164 seems to be easier all around as far as matching parts. I did the same conversion on a 95 and ended up going with the 164 because of trouble getting the bellhousing and flex plate to match the converter I wanted plus the 28 vs. 50 oz. imbalance issue. (I have a brand new 10" 3000rpm tq converter for a 157 laying here as a result)

Good info sean, I'm going to have to steal some (or all) of it for my thread. I can give you $2.50, and an envelope, for royalties.

i just took it out for the first time...its weird i have to hold the trans break button to go backwards. my car doesnt want to idle at all in park... it does fine in neutral and all the other gears it just doesnt like park.

i am deffenitly gonna have to switch to my 3.73's this is worse then the 5 speed.

i tested the transbreak in the checker auto parts parking lot just to see what my stall is... it says 3500 but it sits at 4000 and damn i let go of the button and its gone...
