I had a shudder in the drive train that took me like forever to figure out on my 72 F-250 4x4 that I redone.. Everything on it was new from a frame redo. Turned out I had over torqued the right rear whwwl bearing & it had ceased up & was spinning the the bearing seat. I didnt figure out the issue untill the right rear axle slid out about a foot & a half one day as I was driving thru town.

Is the shake RPM or Speed dependent?

My 89 5.0 had a bad vibration at 65 mph, but it would go away at 75. The whole damn car would shake.. Turns out the driveshaft had a dent in it (car was lowered) and it had been bent long enough to wear the yoke that fits into the tranny out of round.
I had the driveshaft balanced by a shop here in town, and I left the yoke alone. I wanted to replace the yoke and possibly a tranny bushing at the same time... Even so, balancing the driveshaft made a huge difference. It cost me $40 and they even put new u-joints on the driveshaft.
