t-5 to c-6 swap questions

ive been searching on the site and searching on google and many other sites and it seems everybody wants to go manual to auto not auto to manual. well i want to swap to an auto for racing purposes and more consistent shifts and so forth. as far as i can see all i would need is a flexplate, convertor, tranny, crossmember, driveshaft and shifter. anything im missin before i got to a pull apart and start rippin stuff out of a car?? my manual crossmember wont work with an auto will it?? will my driveshaft fit or will it need to be lengthen/shortened??

A C4 is what you want, not a C6. Your crossmember, trans mount and driveshaft will work. You will need a flexplate from a Mustang with an AOD to maintain the 50oz imbalance of the 5.0 liter H.O. engine if that is the engine you have. You will also need a good torque converter. C4s have two different bellhousing sizes. I believe the AOD has the same size flexplate as the larger C4 bellhousing. I'm 99% positive of that. You will have to wire up a neutral safety switch on the shifter but that is not a big deal at all. Make sure you get a good transmission cooler too.

the only 2 different bellhousing sizes would be a big block or small block so if i get a flexplate off any 5.0 it should work with the small block bellhousing i know that much but that for letting me know i can use my crossmember and driveshaft and mount......thats gonna save alot of money on my budget.....thanks for the input

A C6 only has 2 different bellhousings but a C4 has 4 different bellhousings. I'm assuming you meant C4 and not C6 because a C6 is really not a good transmission for any performance application being that it is so heavy and sucks up so much horsepower. Early C4s had a wierd 5 bolt housing, then there is the 351M/big block bellhousing, a large small block housing (for the large flexplates) and the small small block housing (for the small flexplates. All C4 bellhousings are removeable so if you have the trans it is nothing to swap to a different bellhousing.
