Guage(s) Install

Hey guys. I have two autometer elcectric guages i want install in my 95. I have the pod that replaces the clock. I was wondering if anyone could post a diagram of the wires to the clock (so i can tap in there). Also, i was wondering how to mount the senders. (BTW, the guages i have are oil press. and water temp.) I have a T fitting for the oil senders but i dont think it will clear the oil filter or something else ( i dont remember). Is there a better way???

just wondering, thanks

what wires are you trying to tap into???? I guess that you are trying to get the 12 volts constant (for memory) and 12 volt ignition (to turn it on and off with the car) if thats what you are looking let me know i can get list of where those wires are located at as well as a couple of othere goodies

I installed 3 gauges in a hood/windshield wiper cowl... a Mechanical Oil Pressure, Mechanical Water Temp, and Voltmeter. You say its a 95, so I assume its a 5.0, as mine is.

I took the stock oil pressure sending unit out, as the stock oil gauge was bad, and replaced with the new Mech. one and oil line. (be sure you use teflon) Im not sure how a T would work... but my stock oil gauge was bad so I just disconnected it. There is also a low oil light... but no worries. It works off of a different sensor! Its on the bottom of the engine by the oil pan. The stock electric Water Temp sender is in the lower intake manifold in the front . I just took the stock one out and left the stock gauge non-functional. This information may not be useful for you.. but I wish I would have known where stuff was at before I did mine.. :wink I think the manual temp gauge is more accurate, but arent all mechanical gauges? The stock gauges dont have very accurate increments... I dont like em.

I didnt hook the Voltmeter up.. because I wasnt sure where I should hook it to, because It should only have power when the ignition is on.... Then it rained and the gauges got condensation on the inside. Damn I'm glad I didnt hook the Voltmeter up!!!

wraitherlx, i just want to know which wires are which (yes, power and ignition on/off) that go to the clock. it is a plug and am not sure which is which

and 89 5.0 LX, i think the aftermarket electric guages are accurate because they use a diff (autometer) sender and actually have numbers on them(haha)

Yeah the stock gauges are a joke... most have only 2 numbers , and a few tick marks in between. Electric gauges work well if they have the right sending unit, and are probably easier to intstall, (no mess) and in some instances might be the only thing you can use... like A-pillar mounted gauges. It would be a long run to put an oil line all the way... I wouldn't do it.

I used mechanical gauges in the hood cowl because if it leaked, at least it wouldn't make a mess IN the car.

yeah, definitely easier to run a few wires in the car than an oil/coolant line

as far as the wires on the clock, sorry i dont know what the colors are only thing that i would suggest is to just use a volmeter and test for each one, i always went to the main ignition harness for my guages but then again i got the pillar mount not the clock
