If you are a rookie & don't have many experienced connections, save your money up & get a good clean running fox & go from there.

+1 are you looking for a project to build or are you looking for a car to buy and fix up as you drive it?....if you are looking for a car to drive while you do this then forget it find something else...and if you dont know what you are doing or have someone close at hand that knows what they are doing this might not be the car for you...

Im looking for a project, I've got my sixxer to drive now. But am looking for like a restoration. This is almost exactly what i want. I have friends of the family that are local.. one was a mechanic for 40 some years... the other a mechanic with the Army for 20.. but from what i understand you need some hardcore equiptment to straighten a frame and im not confident either of them have it.

Yea to do it properly you need a frame machine, and as far as I know, thats the only way you are going to get accurate measurements on how straight it is. I personally don't know of any way you can go with a tape and measure it out to see if it's straight. Maybe it's possible with measurements from a body shop, but the only way I've seen it is on the machine that has pre-measured reference points. I would just look at it visually. Don't be afraid to go with a jack and git it up off the ground.
If it were me, and I planned on spending a lot of money down the road on it, it would be worth it to take it to a body shop with a frame machine and have them check it out before you start on it. If it checks out, great, if not, call some scrapyards and see what they'll pay for it. I'm sure you can have one come out and relieve it from you for what you paid for it. Hell, I just got $300 for my old buick over the summer. |
