Alarming?

So guys. I decided I wanted to buy a Fox Hatch for a project/resto car. I put an ad out on craigslist, saying I was looking for a Fox Hatch, in restorable condition, engine not required etc, etc.

Well last night I recieved an email froma guy saying he had an '89 LX body for sale, and here's what I gathered:

It's in decent shape, he refered to it as "solid"
He has all interior
Passenger side front floor needs "replating"
Light blue interior, dark blue exterior
Exterior is "solid"
It was a 4cyl, converted to an 8
For an extra $100.00 he'd throw in an Auto Trans (3 speed, yes car is set-up for auto)
The frame is rust-free
There is some rust on the inner front fenders (but they're replaceable, correct?)

Hes selling it because he doesnt have the room to finish it with all the other projects he is working on... Says he got it for a "decent price" and isnt looking to make a killing on it, an is trying to sell it for about what he'd get from a junkyard for it.

I have the following questions sent to him, but am still waiting a reply.

Is it a hatch or a notch? (kind of a big deal, love hatches, notches bother me)
Is the frame twisted, torqued, or bent in anyway?
Is the trans out of the 4cyl or the 8?

Now in hearing that, you're all thinking "yeah, so?" well the part that's got me is... He said he's wanting only $150.00 for it. Why so cheap? Part of me says "Dude, deal of a lifetime" the other says "Haha, where's the catch?" I've seen cars, without an engine, in pretty bad shape go for $900.00. What do you all think? Know of anything else I should ask him?

If it's a notch let me know! I'm in Lockport, and looking for a notch project.

I would also ask what kind of auto he is throwing in. Other than that, go look at it... $150 is pretty cheap, but if it was in ok shape when I looked at it, I would have no problem purchasing it personally.

the floor is probably rotted out.
but who gives a shit, buy it and sell the rear end for 100, the hatch for 50, hood for 20, wheels for 50, basically part it out.
easy money.

there may be title issues and that could be the reason for such a low price.

I emailed him about the title. Have yet to hear back. I'm thinking he may have said something about being our of town for a couple days.

I dont care what shape its in for 150 bucks buy it.....definately worth that at a scrap yard by the pound....salvage title is no big deal for a project car that you buy cheap....no title is a problem unless you live near me....lol...maybe you will get lucky and it has a title and he just doesnt have time or money to build it and wants it gone

He DOES have the title. And the reason hes selling it is because he's got too many projects going on... and he bought it mainly for the engine so is selling the body for about what a junkyard would give him. What defines a title as a "salvage title"?

Something that has been totalled before, in one way, shape, or form. Either theft, wreck, or flood.

No, here in NYS it means that the cost to repair whatever damage was done exceeded 75% of the value of the car. As a car gets older, it takes less and less damage to "total" it because the value of the car drops. I would take a good look at the frame/body of the car and see whats been done. If you want a project, this might not be the best if it's twisted... or worse, dogwalks.

totalled is when your insurance decides that the cost of repairing the vehicle is more than or close to the book value of the car...they give you the book value they keep the car and sell them off in an auction usually to junkyards but sometimes people will repair them but if insurance has paid it off they stamp the title salvage....when buying a newer car or an expensive car its a big deal but when building a project or a cheap car that you are not building to try and sell for a profit its no big deal.....a lot of times sport bikes will have salvage title cause when you lay one down the plastic fairings get broken and the price for new ones from the dealer is usually retardly expensive so you can get one cheap and put after market plastics and fairings on them and sometimes have a fairly nice bike but it will have a salvage title

Just an improperly repaired frame. Usually done at a backyard body guy for "dirt cheap". What it boils down to is that the person who did the repair, didn't have a frame machine and either didn't know there was frame damage, or didn't repair it properly, leaving the front to not be aligned with the rear of the car.

It's just a slang term to describe how the car drives down the road and it looks like a dog walking.... how they have their ass off to the side when they walk.
