EFI to carbureted?

i have a 91 fuel injected 5.0 with electrical problems everywhere. So my question is, is it worth it to go carbureted? and if it is about how much will it cost for a decent parts that would keep the power about the same? Im just sick of electrical problem and before i rewire the entire damn car i think getting rid of the EFI all toghether just might solve all my problems.

i'll prolly get bashed for this but i faced the same choice about 10 years ago. i had an 88 gt that didn't idle right and had some electrical gremlins. i put a carb on it and it ran wwwaaaaayyyy better.

you need a distributor from a 1985 mustang, duraspark box , throttle cable and bracket, carbed intake, a 650 carb, and you'll have to regulate your fuel system down to 7 psi

its a popular thing to do, your not the only one who has considered it.

the one thing you loose is slight driveability.

but like 86 notch stated, the only serious thing you need to do is regulate your fuel pressure, not a big deal.

ha ha this is funny I bought an 86 gt a long time back and the first mods I did was swap from four eyes to newer gt front and rear and side windows, and swaped a computer and efi harness and mani's from a 91 car lol. I sold it cause I hated the dash... I'm a picky fucker.

What are you going to do when you run into a problem that is hard to track down with a carbureted system? A minor problem is not a reason to change from EFI to carburetor or vice versa. For what it will cost you to convert you can take it to a reputable shop and have it fixed....probably for less than what the conversion will cost. Kiss your fuel economy good bye too. Been there, done that many times.

there is one of your problems then.... if your only gettin 6 mpg then your dumping way too much fuel into it.. if there is a dyno shop near you they can hook it to the computer on the dyno for proly about 100.00 and tell you everything that is wrong with it and maybe even fix a bunch of it for you for nothing extra.

prob running 24 pound injectors with stock maf and no tune.

looks like i was right... from his other post :

easy fix man, just get the correct maf sensor. your dumping 126% fuel of what the fuel table calls for. That's like sticking an 850dp on a 302, not going to run well.

Word. I wanna go to a pick and pull yard and try to get everything for the swap cheap . I hate chasing down problems that are causing my car to run rich/lean and not idle right. And it's just more simple and makes the engine bay look nice and clean

I would suggest anyone with problems with thier efi take their ecu to anyone who can socket it for them.

Go to moates.net and order their ostrich 2 emulator. Now get tunerpro r/t and load the .xdf file for the factory .bin.. this will allow you to run the car in live time and see eactly what the fuel/timing/fuel enrichment/cts/ait/map anything is doing all for under 200 bucks.

paird with a wideband o2, you may even become familar enough with it to do some street/driveability tuning.

Carbs are easier make me laugh. People that say that have probably never done any more tuning that changing jets and adjusting float levels. Easier, makes more power, cheaper, etc. are all relative terms and not facts. There are many factors that decide which is easier, cheaper and makes more power. Most people will slap on any old intake and the cheapest Holley carb they can find and have themselves an inefficient turd that makes less power across the entire RPM range. I see this happen all the time.

What are you going to do when you need to chase down driveability problems with a carb, put EFI on it?
