Also, knowing how far off you are can be a help. If it's just a little bit, tricks like changing your oil right before you go, or running some denatured alchohol in the fuel can make the difference.

yes i did warm up the cats pretty well, i drove around for a while and i opened it LOTS of fun!
i installed my MSD 6AL box, i retarded the timing to 8 degrees, i got new spark plugs, i took off my air filter, new fresh 93 octane gas and new oil and oil filter and i still failed... all 3 numbers on the emissions paper are higher than they should be...(cats arnt burning anthing)

Had to be a sniffer, it's an 89.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but retarding your timing to 8* and using 93 sounds like it could have hurt you. You aren't running enough compression to burn all the fuel when using 93... if you have stock compression of course. |

That's why I asked what specs failed and caused the failure. Reading codes would help as well. Running lean, rich, hot, or cold, open loop, closed loop etc.. can cause different readings to be higher and lower and there will be a different solution to get it back into spec. A lot of the "do this" fixes people post *MAY* have worked for them or their friend once in the past but this person may have a completely different issue that requires a completely different solution.
