cam help

searched for topic but nothin came up. i had a copy of the timing marks on the crank and cam sprockets but im afraid it wasnt right. dot on cam sprocket at 6 and key on crank at 12? now when i try to spin my engine over by hand it wont turn.........i havent put the timing cover back on yet in case i need to adjust something. if the #1 cylinder is at TDC will the timing mark on the crank be where i need it to be? then i can line it up with the cam? there is no coil bind or PTV. it is a TFS stage 1 cam. on my last stang i installed a E cam and it did the same thing so i got somebody to do it for me. what did i do wrong?

stock heads, 90 model HO motor, stock rockers, stock length pushrods, stock springs, etc. im savin up for some used edelbrock performers that have been CNC ported, roller rockers, .650 lift springs, etc. i just need to know if i put the motor on TDC on comp stroke will everything line up like its suppose to? and why would it be hard to turn by hand, like i can damn near stand on the breaker bar and wont turn, if there is no coil bind or PTV issues.

my motor was the same way on the stand. I had a big torque wrench and some serious muscle to crank it by hand. I started it up first time the other night. High oil pressure all seems good so far.

Sounds like you installed everything correctly. Are the spark plugs in? If so take them out and try to turn it over. Keep in mind that you know have valve spring pressure that you are working against now too so you are probably going to need something a bit longer than a ratchet to give you some leverage.

That is impossible if the cam dot was at 6 o'clock and the crank was at 12 o'clock. Like 93mustank said, the cam would be at 12 o'clock as would be the crank.
