1995 Mustang GT Trans Swap

Ok so im a former Trans Am owner looking to buy a 95 Mustang GT. I would love to build this car but I really wanna know what im getting myself into. From the start i really want a manuel trans car but this is such a steal i cannot pass it up Now what i wanna do is take the automatic trans thats in the car now and swap over to a 5-6speed. Now my question is how hard of a job is it? Im not affraid to do this myself its just ive never done it ive pulled the transmission on my trans am 7 times replacing clutches haha long story there...But i mean what all do i need to do the job, what transmissions can i use. can i use any TKO or T5 from any year mustang?

its not hard the worst part is gatjering all the parts you need to do it. you should keep the auto just switch to a c4 or have that aod built up it will be just as fast if not faster.
the mustang is a million times easier to work on then a T/A and less expensive.

no the trans swap shouldnt be a big deal you can use a t5 out of another manual mustnag it just depends on how much power you want to put down and how much money you want to spend. The sn-95's have a lot of potential i have seen a lot of them built properly good luck and have fun!!

you'll most likely need to swap the flywheel and h-pipe

why would you have to change the flywheel?

The only tuff part is finding a bellhousing for the 94-95. And plan on big bucks when you do. Ford does not offer them any more and 94-95 are different from the earlier ones. Most people that have them know what they are worth. I made a mechanical drawing for a spacer but never went to the machine shop to get it done.

It does. Auto is a flex plate not actually a flywheel. 5.0 and 5.8 are different as well 50oz. imbalance as opposed to 28 oz. I believe you are also correct on that FMS belhousing for the 95 351 Cobra. I'm double checking and will order one if it's the right one.

money isnt going to be to big of an issue i would keep with the auto but i cant stand driving a automatic car. Its boring, you put it in drive and go...Plus Automatic trans are a mystery to me. The actual swaping i dont think we be that big of a deal for me haha...but i was just wondering what trannys I can use, was thinking of using a 6 speed im pulling the whole car apart this winter and rebuilding the engine with forged parts, heads and cam for starters and full exhaust

ok so this wouldnt be a very simple swap at all, you would need the clutch pedal assembely, and the tunnel for the tranny is different, and you need a new computer, and you would need to plug the tranny lines running to the radiator, and get a new tranny and possibly a new drive shaft, i recently did a 95 v6 to a 96 cobra drivetrain conversion and if you dont have a complete donor car this is gonna be hard to find all these parts, and also very expensive. Your better off going to copart.com and buying a 5.0 with manual tranny thats been smashed up really bad and do ur swap from there.

k so i went from a auto v6 to a manual v8, you will need the computer, tranny harness, tranny, and the driveshaft tunnel because the manuals have a different top to support the shifter boot, along with the clutch pedals and possibly the driveshaft depending on what tranny you use

I believe that I once saw that you can use a GM 6 speed if you get an adapter plate. I cannot verify that for sure though. But I do know that we can put a viper t56 in our fox cars with an adapter plate. Or something like that.
