Running HOT!

Car starts to run Really hot (almost over heating) when driving for about 20 min. I have aluminum heads and afraid of them getting warped. Should i try a 160 thermostat? Anything will help. Thanx

First you should make sure your existing thermostat is even opening when it should be. I think the computer works best with the 180. Maybe your radiator is clogged. Stock mustang rads are not known for their cooling when the car had mods on it. Also make sure you have the proper mix ratio of 50/50 in the rad. If your car is almost overheating I highly doubt a lower temp thermostat is gonna help. Might have water pump problems also.

x2. might actually have the opposite effect, since the T-stat will always be open (since the temp is above 160*) the rad fluid won't get a chance to cool in the radiator.

I would definitely check the radiator, i had the same problem and thought it was a faulty signal because the radiator was full and the overflow was at the right level, then a couple days later it ran hot and blew the head gasket.
