Help me choose.
So I was going to buy some 3.73's and install them this winter but my friends dad has some 3.55 FRPP gears sitting in his shop that he said I can have. Should I buy 3.73's? Use the free 3.55's, or go with somthing else? Car is a sometime daily driver with an occasional 1/4 mile excursion.

Are the 3.55's new or used? Which car are you putting them on?
If they are used....Hmmmm, I gotta think about that.

3.55's are used, but look to be in good shape. He also has a set of brand new 3.27's but I don't wanna go that route. It's for the Notch, the Cobra already has 3.55's.

even if they are used but look good go ahead.. i dont know what the big deal is about using used gears... if they dont have any visable wear on them and your not putting them in a 1000 hp car then used gears are fine. the 4.10's are the first set of new gears i have ever had and i bought them from the person who bought them....lol i have never had a problem with an 8.8 gear. i shot a tooth threw the pan on a 7.5 rear in my 85 mustang then we put in a used set of 3.73 gears out of an old ford station wagen and i never had a problem...
if you are strapped for cash then get the 3.55's they will be a noticable difference over stock and will be great on the street and highway. if you will be chasing down numbers at the track then save the money and get the 3.73's i have a set i bought used off ebay that are about to go in my car.

i got my gears for 55.00 on ebay. its all in the combo if your not hurting for the cash and you think you will want 3.73's later then why spend the $$ twice... i tell ya what.. get the 3.55's from him and go into the classified section and find someone that wants to trade 3.73 for 3.55 i am sure someone wouldnt mind the extra gas mileage...

I just hope I am happy with 3.55's after wanting 3.73's. I will think about it a bit.

Use the 3.55s. You won't notice a worthwile difference between 3.55s and 3.73s. Free is a no brainer.

I have 3:55's in my fox, and had 4:10's in my last car. I hate my 3:55s. Doesn't feel steep at all. I'd take your buddies 3:55s sell them and use that money for 3:73s 8)

depends on power. with 3.55s I was crossing the line at nearly redline in 4th on my 89 with a 26 inch tire at 125 mph.
With 3.73s you will be limited to a lower trap speed or you will need a bigger tire.

Maybe I missed it, but is your coupe auto or manual?
If you plan to drag race much or high horsepower down the road, I'd go with the 3.55s. |

It's a manual. I don't pla on doing anything crazy with the car quite yet. It will just have basic bolt ons but this spring probably H/C/I. I plan on daily driving it in the summer and making some passes down the local 1/4.
