Stall

Ok I have been putting off asking this question for a while because I thought I would find out the answer before having to ask it. What is a stall in an automatic? How does it work? How do you install it? What are the benefits and how does it behave on street cars? Please help me answer this question so I dont have to go out and ask someone!!!

a "stall" is how high the RPM's "rev" before the tires break loose or full power is applied to the ground. it is actually the torque convertor. dont really know how to explain benefits but i know it keeps the RPM's from dropping out of the powerband after a WOT shift and you get off the line quicker. it basically puts your car at the begining of its powerband before you take off. on a street car driving around town the transmission would create more heat than normal but most of the time you can put a cooler on it and be fine. google "stall convertor 101" and you should find a better explanation.
