i know somebody who ran a 4cyl t-5 on a 5.0 with 200 shot for a lil over 2 years. just gotta swap the bellhousing to a SBF style. also you will need wiring harness and ECU

The gears are way different. If you're going to drive it around town, just get a V-8 one.

4 cylinder T5s are weak and have gear ratios intended for a torqueless 4 cylinder. They suck behind a V8.

yeah gearing sucks balls.

I'm going to run my 4 cyl trans until spring so i can get the clutch and motor broke in.

you need:

sbf bellhousing for t5
clutch fork
5.0 mounts
fly
clutch
different pilot bearing for 4cyl trans > 5.0
thats it.

So, lets say you want to swap over a 5L with a carb on it? Do you still have to swap over the main ecu and 5L harness? Or can I just use the 4cyl harness and computer??

if its a carbed motor then you can rip the wiring and computer out and throw it away, then just wire everything you need power to...

Well than, that saves me a great deal of issues...
So, I just need to swap the trans member, motor mounts, and thats about it...
Is there anything else I should look out for?
Thanks.

Brett!

trannys are wierd, i've broken " world class " trannies in 12 sec cars, yet had a 4 cyl trans live for 2 years in a 13.0 car on et streets ( the slicks not radials ) powershifted every day . i didn't put the trans in so i don't know what pilot bearing to use

Alright, well, I guess this raises another question.
The 5L I got is out of I beleive a 86 Thunderbird.
I got a carb, intake, and distributor out of I beleive a 79 or 80 Fox that had a 5L..
Will that stuff work together? Or do I need to go shopping?

if the motor is a roller motor the gear on the distributer will have to be changed also dont forget you will need an inline fuel pump about 15 psi the efi is to much

I always thought if you used a smaller part on a big part it would just demolish the smaller part...

I always try to keep it simple and save the hassle but it seems some have got this to work before... Your call.

if it is a roller then the thunderbird motor has a different firing order then the mustang motor ( don't ask me how i know )

my boy put a junkyard short block out of a cougar ( same as t bird ) in his mustang and sprayed it into the low 11s ( used a bottle every week ) and it lived for a long time

+ 1 on the distributor gear
