7.5 rear how strong are they?
Ok well i just bought this 81 coupe. It has the stocker rear end/gears in it...Should i just change the gears to 4:10's or just swap out the whole 7.5 for a 8.8 or 9 incher? I'm not sure how much abuse the 7.5 can handle Its my first Fox.

Thats what i was thinking about doing. My dad has an extra one setting at his house...The engine is a built 302 bored .30 over nothing crazy...has a healthy cam in it. It i'll be street and drag. I know i'll be ragging on it hard.

why waste the time of an 8.8 swap unless it's a 5 lug/disc conversion

if your dad has the 7.5 use it, i put a free one in my car why i rebuilt my 8.8 it stayed for a year and the car ran12.8 on the slicks with a 6000rpm dump for two full days of racing i was kinda wanting to blow it apart but it held, this motor i had on it put 385rw ftlbs on the dyno

7.5 will not hold much more then 300ft lbs of tq.
i blew 2 apart of them apart when i was running 7.5s in my 2.3 turbo Mustang like 2 years ago, there not very strong.

if you have an 8.8 use it. but i personally think the 7.5 is stronger than it gets credit for. But most are tracloc. unless someone put a ranger pumpkin in it

Use the 7.5 for now
Build the 8.8 for when the 4 banger rear blows up

If you keep the slicks off of it will last, I ran 12.70s in my 85 GT until it blew up and it was just the spider gears so replaced them with junkyard parts and finished the season and then put in a 9" all problems gone now.

because if it's not a pre '86 GT 7.5 or an SVO 7.5 it's most likely not a posi trac. why waste the money putting a posi differential and gears in a 7.5?

They will handle 400 hp and about 200 ftlbs of torque...lol
One good launch with sticky tires and a stock 5.0 and see ya later

Well the car is a 81 4cyl coupe converted to 5.0. Stock rear end, stock gears...I'll just throw some gears in it and slicks. If it blows it blows. Also a 5.0 bored .30 over is a 306 right?

The 7.5s are stronger than you think. It also depends on what tranny/power adder you are running. I have a buddy with a 4 cylinder coupe converted to a 5.0. He is currently running a c4 and turbo making ~450 rwhp and the rear is still going after 2 seasons on slicks. It amazes me every time he launches it and it doesnt generade.

strong enough to live behind an auto equipped ranger running low 11s on slicks
don't waste your money on gears for the 7.5 tho, you can get 8.8s pretty cheap and you're better off saving your money for gears for it instead
