Questions about an '88
Hey guys, Im pretty much a newb with piston motors, i know the basics and crap. Well i have a '90 rx7 and some guy offered me a '88 mustang gt. 302 5.0 5 speed, and it has t-tops =D
I just wondered if there are basic problems to look for, because no car was made perfect. I have a friend that tells me the rear end is squirly so itll slide out easy. Is that true? How hard would it be for me to make 450hp? could i just cam it and put new heads on it? Thanks for the advise, and dont flame me. I looked aroudn on here and found out some things just not everything...lol |

All rear wheel drive cars get "squirrly" just got to upgrade the suspension. As far as making 450, you can get a top end kit (upper/lower, cams, heads) and that will put you to about 350 (give or take a few).

Your car seems better than his. His car has a lot of new stuff which puts up a red flag in my book. You would probably have a lot of gremlins pop up with this car. If you get 3000 for your you can probably find a decent mustang for 3000

88 was the last year for t-top 5.0's. Less than 1000 were made. Join the 88 t-top club!

Well, mine has tons of new things =]
But i understand what yor saying. Also it is an '88 so things do go out... I know 5.0's are reliable one of my good friends has a '94 gt. The car i learned how to drive stick on, and his gives him very few problems. And the t-tops are convincing :-D |

So, what could be the problem with the fuse blowing and gauges going out?

LMFAO!!!
i think he just means he likes to whip the ass end around corners. if he wants to drift he is buying the wrong car for that.

Yeah I'd keep the Rx7. But if you ever come across an 88 t-top car that's in better mechanical condition, SNAG IT! It'll bring in some money down the road if you save all the factory parts. I'm keepin my 88 for a longgggggg time if all goes according to plan

Take the 88 for a drive... swing the ass out it won't take much and see if you like driving the car... if you do then find all the little things that are bad on it and bring them up as you bring the price down you may end up getting it for next to nothing. Sell the rx7 and be able to build the car the way you want it.
Foxes are extremely easy to work on and parts can be found anywhere and are normally pretty cheap in price. One thing though, get on the ground and check the floor pans for any rote or cracks and check the torque boxes for any cracks or carnage.. these are usually the first things to go when the car's been beat to hell and not properly braced. up. If the torque boxes are bad then walk away.. or spend $400 plus to someone who can weld like a mofo to fix them |

If I were you I wouldnt trade my car for that fox... unless you are wanting a project car... That car looks (i know i know dont judge a book by its cover) like you will have more agrevated moments than enjoyment from that car
