Heads and intake question.

I planned on doing a H/C/I swap on my Notch this winter and originally I was planning on going with the Trickflow Streetburner top end kit. Due to finance problems I was going to try to find a Cobra upper and lower intake, GT40p heads, 1.6 roller rockers with an e-303 cam. I realize this won't make the power of the Trickflow setup but it should be pretty decent. Thoughts?

i think you could do better than that with the cam and still get it fairly cheap......as far as the intake goes i have heard that with a good porting on the lower they can flow almost as well as the trickflows and stuff

Yeah dude get the Cobra intake ported. Maybe go with some 1.7 rockers and go with something better for your cam. AFM n41 is really good I hear. Or something along the lines of an f303.

Thanks guys, the only reason I was going with an e303 was because a buddy of mine says they are the most mild cam we can get for our cars but still provides good gains. I will look into other ones.

that's about as budget as you can get ( and that's a good thing ) , i ran that combo for years and it ran 12.60s @ 106 in my full weight 86 t top capri. ( it went 11.70s with a 75 shot of juice ) you'll get a lot of flack for running the e cam but it's a good cam and you can find them for less then 100 bucks all day long.

Just for the price you can get a much better cam. I personally would ONLY run an e cam if I was on a super tight budget... Actually I think I would just save up for something better and not even touch the cam.

303 cams are out dated...but they do work. it's just if you can afford a better cam you should look into a comp or anderson or something of that sort. extreme energy cams are nice

How hard and how long does it take to install and set a cam in a motor that is still in the car?

not very hard, you'll have to pull the upper and lower intake, rockers, roller lifters.

Then the balancer, water pump, and timing cover. The radiator and the timing chain.

You may need to drop the front of the oil pan down as well. The swap cams and reinstall everything.
Plan on a full day if you have never done it before, maybe a weekend in case you run into any problems.

Ebay and classifieds on stang sites are gonna be your friend... go to (dont hate me for saying this) some other stang sites to the classifieds and see if anything your interested in is for sale... also Ebay... you might can still get what you originally wanted and still be on a budget...

How about piecing together some used parts. Used Trick Flow heads are all over the place. You can find pretty much any cam you want on Ebay. Otherwise the combination you laid out isn't bad but for a little bit more money you can have a better set of heads. One thing people don't think about when buying a set of high mileage GT40 heads is they are going to need work. They will need a valve job, surfacing and springs at minimum if not guides and possibly a couple valves and a set of retainers and locks. You could just slap them on and take your chances.....and you can hit on 20 in black jack too...

Sig worthy.

Good info Darrell, I think I am just gonna look around for some used stuff. I will probably buy a new cam though.
