Which Master Cyl.

I am getting ready to switch my fox over to 5 lug with 95 spindles and 13 inch cobra brakes front and rear. I have read the brake sticky, and would like to hear from the people who have done this swap. Is there a way to switch to front and rear disc and not have to use an after market proportioning valve. What is the best master cyl to use on the swap. Thanks Mark

I'm pretty sure you have to swap out the proportioning valve on a fox disc swap. It's not expensive, and easy to do.

I had a MC from a 95 Mustang, which I found made the pedal really stiff, then I switched to a 93 Cobra booster and MC - softer pedal feel, and increased responsiveness IMO.

+1 The 93 Cobra brake booster and master cylinder works great. I have that set up in one of my cars with disc brakes all the way around and the car stops like a ZO6. The pedal is as soft as a Cadillac pedal.

Master

Cool! Thanks for the info. I will get a 93 cobra master, booster, and proportining valve.

My next question is I have drum brakes now, and am going to rear disc. Do I need a whole new rearend, or can I get away with brackets???? Any suggestions??? Thanks Mark

WIth the SVO mastercylinder, you don't need anything else. That is the easy way to do it.

For the rear disk all you need is the calipers, brakets, rotors, pads, and you will have to get some brake line adapters. You do not need a new rear. The axles were longer on 93 cobras and SN95 cars, but you can get caliper brakets made specifically for a fox swap so that you can use the stock length axles.

yes about the booster, I had it on my last car

you can use SN95 axles and brakes, cobras were 4 lug.

Get some Fox length 5 lug axle shafts and the brackets off the Internet. SN95 shafts are long, and if you run a big fat tire in the back, your outer fenders are going to rub the tire.

Since we're on this topic:

Anybody who has cut their e-brake spring and welded it a la SN95 style - how do you keep pressure on the fucking thing so your e-brake light doesn't keep flashing on and off since the original spring gets cut out??

THe SN95 axles are 0.4 inches longer. Your wheels will not rub unless they are very close to rubbing already. And since you are buying wheels anyway (going 4 lug to 5 lug) if you get the correct backspace there is no reason why everything wouldn't fit.

The axles need to be longer to run the SN95 brakes or you need expensive brackets.

Close - they're .75 inches longer per axle shaft.

IMO a lot of cars look funny because people don't buy the right rims for the back. If you change to SN95 spindles in the front, and use SN95 shafts, for the car to look right, you really need to buy front and rear rims with different offsets, or the car looks weird.
