what does timing/valve float/iron heads have anything to do with each other?

I am with hatch on the valve float and Iron heads but any way TFS or the AFR or Canfield or the Victor Jrs some where in the mess of heads for small block Fords you can find a set.

more timing more power. iron heads cant take as much timing (safely) as aluminum, if you put too much timing in it may cause valves to float (F-up) and break S**T. basically.

if i were to get the afr 185 ported heads wouldnt they breathe better than the iron gt 40 and it would be a tried and true solution. i thank you 93hatch for the input, but i am looking at the +'s of the aluminum head and they outway the -'s by a longshot, one of them being my problem.

Springs get hot cause they get compressed, not from heat soak from the engine

valve float is usually a spring rate problem. detonation is a problem from fuel, that can be overcome by retarding timing. pre ignition happens from detonation, or a hotspot in the cumbustion area.

I have no Idea, mabe cause they lose some heat, but not that much. the combustion process is too fast for the loss to be effected.

Timing and head material have nothing to do with valve float. Nothing at all. Valve float is related to spring pressure. 490hp with GT40s is pretty impressive. Must have been a Dynojet.

Because they are more prone to detonation.

Those darn circle track engines with iron heads living at 5-8k rpm for 30 minutes a time. Valve float is spring related, period.

thank you darrell, now is there a formula for choosing the correct size head or is it the same as always, GO BIG OR GO HOME.

They formula is:

money in your bank account x how fast you want to go = what heads to use
