here's how i fit a monster tach and speedo into the dash , i did this because i hate the tach screwed onto the black dash covering or screwed on the dash under the rearview mirror, i like my tach right in front of my face

i did this on the workbench with the dash out of the car because i have an 86 and i'm switching to the newer style interior because my dash is cracked and i got a sweet deal on a complete blue interior ( hey i like blue ) out of a low mileage ssp car . the first pic is of my current dash with the crack , the rest are of the dash that's going in my car. this mod can easily be done with everything in the car

everything is really dusty , i should've taken pics after i cleaned it up by my camera's batteries died before i had the chance

i disassembled the stock cluster
clearanced the back of the white cluster housing
used a thin sheet of metal and made a template using the white cluster as a pattern
cut holes for the tach/speedo
clearanced the black bezel ?
and put everything back together

with aftermarket speedos like that can you change the milage on them?

i'm redoing the car this winter, i was going thru the traps right at 7 grand on a good pass. i got the dual range tach because all i care is what's going on between 6 and 7 grand ( my shift points ) with the conventional tachs it's almost impossible to keep your shift points precise with such a small area between the #s. i don't have a shift light ( well actually i do but i took it off the car after the first run ) because i hate the light shining into my face when i'm trying to drive, it only distracts me. that's why i have the tach i do

Looks good, but I like a shift light. Makes things simple, and never seems to bright to me.
