Why am i burning through starter solenoids?

I Got my mustang about 4 months ago and since then i have gone through 3 starter solenoids, and im about to have to change it again. Im not getting crap solenoids either, im getting bosch. Its always the same... they work great at first and then after a few weeks, they start to act like the battery is dead. The starter turns extremely slow if it even turns at all. Other than that the solenoid just clicks. And if you try to start the car more than twice when its acting up, the fkn solenoid starts smoking. after it goes completely out, you can still hear it click but there is no juice getting to the other post, like the plunger has been burnt off. I have no idea why im burning through solenoids like this.

BTW, im not stupid. Im not engaging the solenoid too long. My car starts in 2 turns. Always.

maybe a starter gone bad putting to much amp load on the solenoid or bad cables, get the thing checked to see how many amps it is drawing when you are cranking it.

I agree that your starter is probably drawing to much juice. You could have too much resistance in the wiring somewhere. Also, if your battery is bad it can cause the starter to draw extra more current to turn over.

Im not sure if its a 0 gauge but its about as big around as my first finger... and the original solenoid i burned up was a factory ford solenoid.

Can they test my starter to see how many amps its pulling without me taking it out?

buy a new starter from like autozone with the solenoid on the starter with a 1 year warrenty, check all of ur wires to make sure they are tight and no wires are burnt out. and make sure all the grounds are on clean metal and tight.

Why am i burning through starter solenoids?

I had a similar issue. I never replaced the solenoid though. I found my negetive cable had some corrosion where it bolts to the block, after I replaced it the car started great......... for the day. Then it acted like it had a dead battery again. I checked with a multimeter and it said it had 12v but it still wouldn't crank the car over. So I decided to put the battery on the charger and after the evening of charging the car starts great, it's been about a week now with no problems. Before my cables got really hot due to the corrosion, also with the corrosion it caused my battery to not charge properly.

Why buy a 1 year warranty starter? The Valucraft with a 1yr warranty is junk, buy a Duralast with a lifetime warranty, only a few bucks more, and the last starter you'll ever have to pay for

I work there and wouldn't take anything Valucraft for free. Duralast parts are worth it for the warranty
