Help with valve springs upgrade - a problem

Now you 5.0'ers don't get mad. I am posting this here because you probably know the answer, even though the question is about stock '68 302 heads.

I swapped in a mild lift cam upgrade, and was told to get new valve springs. Mustangs Unlimited recommended a Trick Flow upgrade kit. The kit wants 1.8" under the spring retainer to the spring seats. But the stock height is 1.66" and there is no way I can get close to 1.8" I think squeezing them to 1.66" defeats the purpose of the high lift cam?

Do I start over?
Thanks.

Help with valve springs upgrade - a problem

Haven't looked into machine shops to have the seats cut?

The easiest, and most cost effective answer.

The only way for anyone to help you is for you to post the specs on your parts. We know the springs call for a 1.8 installed height (whether that is right or not is unknown) but we need to know what do the springs coil bind at and what is the lift of the cam. You are not going to cut the seats .140 so that is out but you can get offset locks and you may not need 1.8 IH. I just did springs on a set of 68 289 heads and it took over 300 bucks worth of springs, locks, retainers and shims to get them in right on an ecam.
This was using the stock valves which have the same installed height as the heads you have there.
