Gear calculations

wondering if anybody has this formula. or a link they can get to quick for me to use. im gonna order some gears for the 8.8 in the next couple of weeks. ive got a C4 that needs to be built but will be installed over the winter. gonna go ahead and do the gear swap. need to know around what gears to use with the 3 speed auto. 26-28 tall tire. stock motor with tfs stage 1 cam, edelbrock performer intake and holley 600 4bbl. after the winter hopefully ill have a set of heads and a better intake/carb. ill be spraying the car also if that makes a diff. maybe somebody has a good recomendation for a set of gears.

Gear Ratio Calc

maybe this will help you... 4.10's are a good all around gear...

If you want speed AND rpm, you need a chart showing both, not a formula

This is no different then the link already shown but this is the formula used with wheel circumference (26 or 28 in your example x 3.14).

RPM = Axle x Trans X 1056 X MPH / Wheel_Circumference
MPH = RPM X Wheel_Circumference / Trans X 1056 X Axle
Axle = RPM X Wheel_Circumference / Trans X 1056 X mph

Well that is the question. I think he wants the "right" rpm's at the end of the track. For some people, 4.10's and a 26 inch tire MIGHT be right but you wouldn't know unless you have an estimate of HP or something to get the rough estimate of the expected speed at the end of the 1/4 and what RPM's the car is still making decent power.

Example..
With a 26 inch tire and 4.10 @ 110 mph would be 5800 RPM.
A 28 inch tire would be 5400 RPM at 110 mph.
