pedistal mount rockers

I have a set of gt40 iron heads, Ford Racing roller rockers. I need to know what the lifter preload should be. I have searched for this info and have got nothing but guesstimates from morons. I may have the wrong length push rods or wrong length valves. Preload measured between the rocker and pedistal was about .175. I installed a set of Crane rocker shims that totaled .090 but preload still seems exesive. .085 x 1.6 ratio would compress the lifter about .136.

I get no lifter rattle on cold startups but get some valve train noise after warm up. Engine runs great, but noise bothers the hell out of me.

351W, Flat tappet cam, GT 40 iron heads, .490 lift cam. Ford Racing GT40 Valve springs good for .550" inch lift.

I think even when properly adjusted flat tappet cam valve-trains tend to make noise anyway. A properly adjusted hyd roller motor with aftermarket roller rockers make a little noise also, nothing crazy but you for sure can hear the valve-train working..
