belt tension problems

I need help. With my intake the way it is I cant put an ac delete of any type like I thought maybe i could have. it will put my tensioner right on the intake. Has anyone ever messed with moving the tensioner to different places or anything of the sort? Im at a loss. Or how do you route a belt and bypass the power steering? Thats another route I may take. But how would a tensioner work there? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated at this point. I have some pics to show what Im working with

Sorry guess I wasn't very clear. I can install it where it is. But the tensioner doesn't hold any tension on the belt because there is no ac pulley or anything to keep the belt up. If I install an ac bypass pulley the belt will pull the tensioner up into the intake pipe. so my dillema is clearance. Where can I move or modify the tensioner where it will hold pressure on the belt?

thats the same as an ac bypass pulley as far as the belt location. With the belt being up higher, in this case where or near where the ac would normally be, the tensioner will be pulled up into my intake pipe. thats where I need to see about moving the tensioner to a different place. I may ditch the tensioner and go with a turnbuckle pivot set up on either my alternator or power steering

I see what your saying.......If you do the turn buckle set up wont you have more of a problem with belt clearance?

Possibly. thats another concern of mine. Im not sure what would be the best way. I was also thinking of maybe finding a way to use the tensioner upside down where the smog pump used to be.

go to cj pony parts and chech out the tech article on belt length. if you've also removed your smog pump you would need a 72 in belt.

If you mean the pipe thats in the way, thats not really doable since I run turboed. pipe is obviously a necessity. Is that what youre talking about though?

smog pump removed, no ac, 130 amp alternator, standard water pump and normal balancer, but as of now, a 71.5 is too long.

Ditch the water pump for electric, go to a manual rack and get a March kit for the alternator. It will mount low on the left side of the motor. No more problems.

I have wanted to go with a manual rack. havent really thought much about the electric water pump. Maybe in the future. But i guess for now the slightly more cost effective answer is what Im looking for.
