Thinking about putting disk brakes on my 87 hatchback

I am thinking about putting some disk brakes on my car instead of drums. I think they look better. Do they perform better?

Learn from my mistakes and don't try to piece a disc brake conversion together. Go with a kit and be done with it. Brakes aren't something you want to try to save money on. Trust me, you'll thank me in the end.
