electric fan vs fan clutch
This weekend my car decided to overheat. Nothing that I can see or feel got damaged, guess I shut it off on time. While my car is running it does not reach 150* but during this stop and go traffic it got up there. I did a flush and changed the t-stat (mr. gasket 180*). I beleive my fan clutch is out but it still spins with the motor. Should I go electric or stay with the clutch? Also, what are the advantage/disadvatage? or maybe it could have been my t-stat that I just replaced.

Electric is the way to go it does not draw power from the engine and comes on at a specific temp. Just because you did a flush does not mean that you dont have some clogged passages in the rad. You should not over heat no matter what. is it a stock rad?

electric fan is a good upgrade, but the stock clutch fan is a pretty good way of cooling. How do you know that your current clutch is faulty?

you should be able to spin your fan if the motor is off if it is a clutch fan and on the e-fan you might experience problems if you have subs or anything else in your car that pulls from the battery but just the fan should be ok with your stock alternator (assuming it is stock)

you should be fine i had one on my truck and it did fine with the stock alternator and my friend has LS1 camaro fans on his camaro with a 10" puller fan and his stock alternator does fine and he also has neons 1000 watt amp and a cd player. as far as the taurus fans you can get them pretty cheap at a junkyard just make sure they work first, i think all of them have 2 speeds and i think they pull anywhere from 800CFM to 1400CFM and anything can be made to fit on a radiator but i picked up a taurus fan from a scrapyard for $15. get one off a newer body taurus or just buy a fan spacer kit and a flex fan and put it on there or replace the clutch fan. its all up to you

Forget the flex fan....junk! I would first get the radiator flushed at a shop with a hot tank to ensure ALL the gunk it out. If it only overheats in traffic or stoplights, that means there is a blockage somewhere. Are you positive you didn't install the thermostat backwards? (I've seen it done countless times!)
The reason I say fix the problem first is because if you just get a large electric fan, you're only covering up the real problem. With the engine off, the fan should not spin like a pinwheel. I say if it spins more than once the clutch is toast. As for which electric fan? There are many good ones out there like the Taurus(3.8 liter), Lincoln , black magic or Spal You will need a heavy duty relay, or at least it's recommended, with whatever fan you choose to go with. Here is an excellent article on how to wire up a taurus fan with all the parts and schematics you'll need. BTW, I have one on my car and it works GREAT! http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...cfan/index.php
