cd player wiring problem

wats goin on guys.......i put a cd player in my 91 hatch and it worked fine then a buddy of mine put a new one in his beamer and gave me his old one...it worked fine in his car til i put it in my car and for some reason when you turn the headlights and/or park lights on it turns on and off every couple seconds and it keeps no memory...but i found a temporary solution for it..i turned my interior light on and it stays on all the time till i turn my headlights off im wonderin whether its not gettin enough juice or somethin and on the memory me and my buddy messed with it a lil today and the wire that plugs into the installation kit was not fully in so we plugged it back in and it still doesnt keep memory...does anybody know wat my problem is

Electrical issues

I used to install radio's when in College. I have a degree in Electronics, so I can probably help you, but I am going to need more information that what you have here.

You can e-mail me if you want.

I need to know how you wired the stereo.

Not sure if you know but you need a constant source to the memory wire, it sounds to me like you have wired the memory wire to something that cuts off when you turn the key. Sometimes you think you have a constant source of power, but when you turn the key it can disrupt the circuit for a sec, and then you are screwed. If in doubt, you can always run a wire with a in-line fuse from the battery to the memory wire. You want the fuse to be as close to the battery as possible. Is the memory the only prolem you are having? Does the other functions of the radio operate as desired?

You will need to get a volt meter, or at least buy a cheap test light, you can even make one if you are really thrifty from a tail light and a piece of wire, and some electrical tape.

Do you have a soldering iron? You would be surprised how many folks just slap some electrical tape on the wires, and off they go...........

Get these things, and then we can talk :-)

Robert

Turning on and off

Oh, It also sounds like you have somehow wired the power to the opposite side of the switch for the headlights. Not a good idea.

Take the fuse out for the headlights, and see if the radio works.

Do you have a camera? Perhaps you can take a picture of where you are connecting the wires? You should be using the radio wiring harness. Crutchfield makes a kit that attaches to the original harness and make wiring a snap, but I may be able to talk you through selesting the correct wires.

i am an installer if you need a wiring diagram i can give you one if you need that will give you the wires for the audio at the harness, also make sure that on the aftermarket harness that you got with it that you cut and cap off the orange and orange white wire, those are for the illumination and dimmer for the radio you really dont need them at all b/c your radio will still have illumination. jsut pm me if you need anything
