Rear 4 lug disk brake swap questions.

Im planning on starting taking out the drum brakes and swapping in a set of disks i picked up for free when i bought my motor. I believe that the parts i have came from a cobra or turbo coupe not sure which. Any way i have heard that you need the axles that the calipers and brakes came with, is this ture? Also if anynone has done this before some pointers or tips would ve greatly apreciated.

It is not true if you buy a set of offset brackets for FOX length axles.

You'll need new e-brake cables, adapter to fit the rear line to the hoses on the calipers, and adjustable proportioning valve and the plug to defeat the stock valve. A larger master cylinder helps (94-95 GT is good and cheap) I don't see a spacer working, as the bend in the bracket happens up over the axle shafts on the bracket - but I could be wrong and have been before.

you'll need 5 lug axles to run 17 in wheels to clear the calipers and you'll have to change your booster, are your rotors 11 in

No he won't - He's doing a 4 lug conversion. You need 17" rims to clear 13" cobra brakes.

I thought 93 was when the cobra came back after a little break and they were 5 lug? I'd be curious in looking in to sn stuff. I've read they where based on the fox with a diff wrapper so if thats true then would that mean a disk rear from a 94,95 car bolt in since the spindles are the low buck way of 5 lugging? Kill two birds with one stone on that one. That could be some thing to look into.

North Racecars Cobra Replica and Mustang Parts Connection if you need anything, try these guys out. I got my set up from them and it worked out well. My only complaint is the quality of the rotor; made in china.

No, 93 Cobras were 4 lug, same size brakes as other V8s, but little different offset for disks.

93 Cobra R was 5 lug, 13" front 11.65" rear disk

You need offset brackets or cobra axles. One or the other.

16 inch wheels and 15 inch wheels will clear the 93 cobra style brakes (speaking from experience)

Good to know, what about if a 94,95 rear axle as a whole will it bolt up?

Thanks for all of the info. I dont know alot about the braking system which is why i needed to ask. Im going to have my one friend help me out who is a mechanic so hopefully we can do it right. Im going to try to use the stock axles so we'll see how that goes.
