Pre load on Pedistal mount rockers

Ok, I posted this in the General / Engine forums and no responce.
What should the preload on hydrolic lifters be? Measured at the gap between Rocker arm and pedistal when the pushrod is just starting to compress lifter.

This is a 351W. .490 lift, Flat tappet cam. 1.6 ratio Ford Racing Roller rockers.
I Installed .090 crane shims and still seem to have exsesive preload.

With pedestal mounts all you have to do is go to 0 lash then give it a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If you cant get that then you probably need either (A) bigger shim or (B) different pushrods.

Did you check the installed hight of the springs to see if they are correct?
Did you use an adjustable pushrod to mock up the valtrain to determine the correct length rod?

I Paid good money to have DREW MARINE, who was listed in the SVO Motorsport catalog as a Motorsport engine builder, to put this engine together out of all new parts, to crate motor specs. He sold me on the fact that he could do a better job of assemling the engine blue printed than the Crate motor from Ford would be. I have had the engine apart and rebalanced with a new fly wheel and balancer, spent another $2000 on top of what I paid him, to try and get it right. I did replace the valve springs with Motor Sport springs that were recomended for the GT 40 iron heads. The springs in the heads were longer uninstalled ,tha the correct springs. . I think I was experinceing coil bind at firs. I don't know what the recomended installed height should be that is why I am here on MODDED Mustangs. Tonight I pulled the V covers and dropped a rocker to pull a push rod. It measured at 8.185.

I am running .090 spacers, I will eliminte these and am going to go to 8.050 push rods to get what I wanted.
