Tach isn't working right

For awhile now my tach hasn't been reading correctly. I used to be able to flick the tach and it would read right. But today that wasn't working. I think it's about to go out. How can I fix this problem?

If it will work with a flick of your finger does it stop when you hit a bump?

It won't work anymore, even if i flick it. It will just read completely wrong. Sometime sits 1000 rpms off. and it usually reads lower.

No i meant when it did work would it screw up when you hit a bump? Like a loose wire? I'd just check those first before replacing anything to make sure thats what it is to save money.

If it was a factory tach even when it was working it really wasn't working, a factory tach is like a Indian counting flies... Not doing him/her or you any good... or... useless as a tits on a president.....
