HELP ME!! My 5.0's Stock!!

Hey, thanks for the help.. I just purchased a 88 5.0 GT fox body 94k original miles need paint, no biggie, but engine and trans are GREAT, BUT STOCK. Since she is my first i am looking for some pointers for upgrades for performance/power and definitely reliable parts. I want to stay with the stock 302 motor what would you mustang brothers start with. Without a paint job coming into the factor i am looking for a $2,000 motor cash dump.. Which way should i go at first? If you could, please list in chronological order just incase i am short on cash but still want to buy parts.. I was thinking intake manifold, throttle body, and exhaust but i would must rather get opinions on how to go about investing into the motor.

Thanks!!

PLEASE HELP!! haha

i would definetly look at a set of heads, you can pick a set of gt40p heads fairly cheap. besides heads, a cam and intake mani is the best start. definetely look at suspension upgrades (upper/lower control arms) and stickier tires.

or if youd like you can just give me the 2k lol

first and foremost get a set of gears for the rear , 373s are usually the gear of choice unless u have an auto then i preferr 410s, repack the clutches in the rear while you're in there.

gt40s a budget build and make great power, if u want heads thatll last thru the power ahead go tfs but look for a used set that are in good shape. 3.73s make for a great street car and strip runner. gears first, means less power needed to go faster

Heads seem expensive.. REALLY thats the top engine right? im not too car savvy so excuse my ignorance. But as i look for them they seem to be expense if any one could guide me to a website or direction of links to a set of heads, intake mani (upper/lower), full exhaust, headers, i think that will be a good start.. right?

gears will be either 2.73s or 3.08s stock , check the tag on the rear end cover it will say one or the other , 3.73s are the most popular upgrade , I would check Ebay for deals on heads , and intake as well , but with an 88 you will need to upgrade to mass air to run any kind of cam , you can find an A9L computer on ebay usually pretty cheap , summitracing.com or ebay has the 4 wire harness you will need to do the mass air conversion and you can find instructions on doing the mass air computer swap on google , you will need to change your air intake hose to a mass air one as well but you can find them on ebay for cheap too

Go with more than 3.73 for all motor car...... at least 4.10's....

And plz no E-crap cam

Sounds like a shop will be doing this work so I say the only route for you is gt40p combo, exhaust and gears....you will be at 2000
