'80s Dominator Mustang

does anyone here remember or ever heared of the Dominators that were produced in the mid '80s? they were done by Summit Ford in Summit Mo. so they were probably mostly seen in the mid-west. they had the most kick ass commercial and at the end it showed a rear shot of the car doing a killer burnout and said "you've just been dominated"

DOMINATORS 3's THE DEALER COST JUST FOR THE ENG. WAS $6500.00. FROM THE SHOWROOM FLOOR THESE CARS RAN 12's ON STREET TIRES AND 11's WITH SLICKS."

Tracked down Dave Anderson, the owner of Anderson Racing Inc(ARI) and builder of the original Engines that were put into the 1983 Dominator GT's. This sounds like what has been described as the Stage III. Here is what he had to say:

Steve, We built a 302 with forged TRW pistons, Moly rings clevite bearings, a solid camshaft, Large valves & springs, etc. in the heads, double roller timing. At first we were selling the manifold and carb witht he engine but later the dealership just bought the base longblock.

Later when the dealership became worried about the emissions factor and fines they simply put stickers ont he cars and did some minor things and sold cars based on the reputation of the "real" Dominators.

Someplace in the boxes of old records there is probably an invoice listing everything that we did, but I do not have time to dig.

Our intention in building the engine was to improve on the original concept 271 Hspr used in the mustang in 1965. It biggest advantage was the slightly increased compression, larger valves and a solid cam that easily allowed 6500 RPM when you fed it the gas.

Hope that helps a little.

Dave Anderson

After 20 years, I contacted some of the original people who put together the Dominator option package. I was told that from 1982 to 1985, Dominators were sold by Summit Ford in three stages. The man in charge of the Dominator package in the beginning was Vince Hancock. Vince now works at HMH Auto Sports, Inc. in Summit, Missouri. He told me that Dominators 1 and 2 came with the option Motorcraft Dural Spark 2 Ignition box with 6000 RPM Rev Limiter Chip Plug-in; 140 MPH speedometer from Ford Motor-Sport; Hooker Super Competition Header; modified carb and air cleaner. I believe they also have the 308 to 410 rear-end gears. Dominator 3 motors (only 27 cars were made) were built by Dave Anderson of Anderson Racing, Inc. in Grandview, Missouri. He used a totally different motor that dealer cost $6500.00.

The commercial had Golden Earrings "Radar Love" as the music. It showed the car, silver, in various static shots with some stage "fog" swirling around. One thing shown were car silhouettes signifying "kills" like on fighter planes stuck on the drivers door.

Wtf he says two diff things, and the forged trw pistons came stock at one point............. thats kinda scandalous to just through stickers on it and charge more - "they simply put stickers ont he cars and did some minor things and sold cars based on the reputation of the "real" Dominators."

I would be the Steve that you quoted talking to Dave Anderson in your post. Where did you find out this info about 27 cars? I have researching this for sometime and would love to get a count on how many of these there were out there. I have talked to Dave Anderson, and Randy League, but have not yet been able to contact Vince Hancock, the original mastermind of the dominators according to Randy.

Funny you should post both those pics! Because the same guy down in Austin Texas now owns both of them. The Red 86 he bought from a Guy named Matt who lives out in Wynadotte County and the Black 85 he just bought from a guy in Illinois. He's a collector.

Yeah I am a member of foureyedpride as well. That is actually how Chris got both of the Dominators. He bought both of them from other members. I have been trying to locate my old one. I had a black 85 Dominator with Gold Enkei wheels and used to cruise Metcalf and Blue Ridge back in the late 80's and early 90's. I remember seeing the Dominator commercials too and have been trying to find somebody who might have a copy. I recently tracked down the name of the guy who owned Summit Ford when they were selling the Dominators, hoping he might have a copy. We will see, if I can even find him.
